About Formal Dress Guide

Where the facts come from

• The English Wikipedia articles on dress codes, silhouettes, necklines, fabrics, trains and the occasions themselves, read in October 2026; where an article cites a costume history, a museum or an etiquette guide, we follow the citation.
• Bridal and formal-wear glossaries and measuring guides for terms that encyclopedias do not define, such as trumpet and mermaid skirts or veil lengths. Where they disagree, we give the range.
• Style names are used the way most shops and makers use them, but makers' own size charts always come first: there is no single standard for dress sizes.

Every page shows when it was last checked. Corrections are welcome and are made as soon as a better source is found.

Independence and advertising

Formal Dress Guide does not sell, make, rent or alter dresses and takes no orders. It has no connection with any designer, brand, bridal shop or online store, recommends no particular one, and names no designer. The drawings on the site are our own and show no real dress. The site is paid for by display advertising, which is always labelled.

The history of this domain

From about 2015 sisdress.com was an online shop for wedding, bridesmaid and prom dresses, and later an online fashion marketplace; by 2022 it had closed. Formal Dress Guide is a new, unrelated project. It cannot take orders, returns or questions about that shop, and links that once pointed to its pages now lead to the matching part of this guide.
